contocricket: (The good doctor)
This is just where I keep a list of my ideas for alternate universes for Jiminy/Archie. If you want to play in one of them, feel free to poke me via the Contact page or PM me.

These are some things I keep in my head when playing Archie, particularly canon Archie. There will be some variances based on various AUs.

  1. Archie has some serious guilt issues with the death of Geppetto's parents being at the top of a very long list of reasons for them. He can be manipulated via that guilt to even keep silent when he'd otherwise speak up just as Geppetto did by bringing up his parents' fate in order to make sure that Pinocchio would be saved along with Emma.

  2. He still has the pickpocket and other thievery skills he'd learned under his parents' tutelage. His cursed memories also give him access to the techniques for modern-day conning and thieving including the ability to create remarkably-realistic fake IDs. He hates using those skills but will still use them when he has to. He just usually feels sick after he uses them.

  3. His parents were True Loves, so Archie believes that the idea that a child born of True Love is automatically destined to do great things is utterly bogus. After all, he did terrible things before he'd finally found his way. He agrees that True Love is some of the most powerful magic there is, but he doesn't believe it grants anything to any offspring other than being burdened with other people's false perception of greatness.

  4. He and Rumpelstiltskin have history due to his parents trading his skills as a thief in return for gold thread on a regular basis. As you can imagine, knowing that he was basically an accessory to the terrible things Rumpelstiltskin did with the names and objects he brought him makes his guilt issues even worse.

  5. He worries that he will never fully escape his parents' influence and that one day he'll slip up and become them because "bad blood always shines through".

  6. He has some physical and psychological scars from his time aboard the Jolly Roger. As far as physical scars go, he has little lines around his wrists where the ropes had been, so he tries to keep his wrists covered as much as possible. The most scars he has are psychological ones. It took him almost a week to be able to re-enter his office lest he get lost in the memory of his kidnapping. He gave the boat that used to sit on his bookshelf in his office to Henry since seeing it out of the corner of his eye would start triggering panic attacks. He avoids walking by the docks as much as he can along with trying not to spend time anywhere near Killian Jones. When he's starting to be reminded of his time on the ship, he'll start subconsciously rubbing his wrists raw.

  7. He had Pongo trained to be a therapy dog at some point before the first curse broke. (Though that was probably just cursed memories again.) Now that Archie knows just how smart Pongo really is, the Dalmatian has become even more his silent partner at the clinic.

  8. He doesn't ask for help if he's feeling unwell or overwhelmed due to his parents' programming it into him that any time he asks for help is a burden on the person he's asking. On top of that, they'd used him when he was too sick to care for himself to take advantage of good Samaritans, further drilling it into his head that him relying on others only causes them problems.

  9. Despite being human in Storybrooke, sometimes the cricket traits come through. For example, he gets very drowsy during the winter when some crickets go into hibernation. For another, sometimes he can almost swear he can feel his wings though typically it's the feeling that they itch.

  10. Archie is not particularly technology savvy. He knows the very basics plus is pretty skilled at Photoshop (a necessity for the modern-day con man so thanks for that, cursed memories). He also has an app-capable cellphone which he only uses to call or text. It's one reason why he's still using good old-fashioned paper files in his office and why he doesn't own a computer.
